Bangladesh has taken a big step toward sustainable digital infrastructure by signing an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to develop the country’s first green data centre. The agreement, signed on January 27, is a collaboration between the Posts and Telecommunications Division, Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL), and the Public-Private Partnership Authority (PPPA).

The state-of-the-art facility will be built on BTCL-owned land near Chattogram and will follow international standards to ensure high efficiency and scalability. It will run on renewable energy, reducing environmental impact while providing reliable data storage services. The centre will cater to both public and private sector needs, offering commercial colocation services while also fulfilling BTCL’s own data storage requirements.
