Bangladesh is set to receive $850 million (about Tk 103.7 billion) in financial support from the World Bank for two major projects focused on job creation, trade expansion, and strengthening the country’s social protection systems.

The announcement was made by the World Bank’s office in Dhaka last Thursday.

A formal agreement was signed at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. Representing Bangladesh was Shahriar Siddiqui, Secretary of the Economic Relations Division, while GAIL, Interim Country Director, signed on behalf of the World Bank. The event was also attended by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Financial Advisor to the Bangladesh Government, and Martin Reiser, World Bank Vice President for South Asia.
