Bangladesh is home to over 450 million animals, including cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep, chickens, and ducks, according to the Department of Livestock. To meet their nutritional needs, feed mills and production factories have been set up for cattle, buffaloes, and poultry. What was once a sector heavily dependent on imports has now developed into a local industry, largely supported by domestic corn. Industry insiders estimate that the country’s feed market is worth around Tk 80,000 crore, while corn production continues to rise to meet the growing demand from the feed sector.
