In the first 14 days of September, remittances from Bangladesh’s expatriates reached an impressive $1.16 billion USD, equivalent to 14,000 crore Bangladeshi taka (with an exchange rate of 120 BDT per USD). This amount surpasses the figures from August and September of the previous year, though it falls slightly short of June's total. According to Bangladesh Bank’s data released on September 15, the surge in remittances is linked to various government initiatives aimed at increasing foreign earnings. However, a dip in July's figures was noted when expatriates reduced their remittances in solidarity with the political unrest in the country. Since then, the situation has improved, with remittances bouncing back in August and early September.
